Customer Success Stories: Ensuring Clean and Accessible Facilities at Boardmasters 2024

Taking place in Newquay and Cornwall, GAP Events and Tanker Services supported 58,000 festivalgoers at Boardmasters 2024, over five action-packed days. Our mission was to provide essential facilities that were clean, accessible, and well-maintained throughout the event, ensuring a comfortable experience.

Supporting Key Areas of the Festival

Our team covered multiple high-traffic zones across the festival to make sure that facilities were readily available:

  • Arrival Area: Clean and fully stocked toilets greeted festivalgoers as soon as they arrived.
  • Bus Drop-Off Zone: With thousands using bus transport, we maintained sanitation in these busy areas.
  • Camping Areas: From general to VIP camping, we provided facilities across the entire site, ensuring easy access to toilets for all campers.

The Power of our Fleet

To handle the festival’s sanitation needs, we deployed a fleet of seven GAP Tankers with a range of capabilities to meet the unique demands of the site.

  • 4x4 Tankers: Designed to navigate tight, confined spaces, these vehicles were crucial for reaching hard-to-access areas with minimal environmental footprint.
  • 26-Tonne Tanker: For larger-volume waste removal, these vehicles efficiently managed the high demand in larger, busier areas, quickly and efficiently.

This versatile fleet allowed us to adapt to the unique logistical challenges posed by the festival’s size and terrain, ensuring every area was serviced with care, precision and environmental responsibility.

Efficient Waste Processing

For the second year, we used our Sludge Screener to process waste more efficiently. This innovative technology separated solids from liquids, ensuring that only liquids were sent to treatment plants while solids were handled by local waste management services. We processed enough waste to fill five 8-year skips with solids, reducing the burden on local treatment facilities and improving the overall sustainability of waste management.

By the Numbers

Here’s what we delivered behind the scenes:

  • 440 toilets, including 18 accessible toilets and 91 urinals.
  • 520,000 litres of effluent waste and 65,000 litres of grey and catering waste removed.
  • 10,080 toilet rolls supplied, covering a distance equivalent to the journey from Glasgow to London!

Our team worked 24/7 to keep these facilities clean and fully stocked, ensuring they were always ready for use.

Overcoming the Challenges of a Large-Scale Festival

Managing sanitation at an event of this scale required careful planning and a fleet capable of navigating diverse terrains. Our 4x4 tanks handled hard-to-reach areas, while the 26-tonne tankers managed larger zones. With the Sludge Screener, we maximised efficiency and minimised environmental impact by processing waste more sustainably.

Boardmasters 2024 was a resounding success, and GAP is proud of the vital role we played in ensuring festivalgoers enjoyed clean and accessible facilities. We’re excited to continue our commitment to delivering high-quality, environmentally responsible sanitation services at future events.
