Game On: Celebrating our Youth Teams’ Achievements

As the season gets into full swing, our youth teams are proving that hard work, teamwork, and a little bit of GAP support can lead to incredible accomplishments. Here’s a highlight of their progress both on and off the field.

Waterhead Warriors

In June, the Waterhead Warriors hosted an U12 girls’ tournament with seven teams. Wearing their new GAP-branded kit, the girls finished 2nd, winning five out of seven games – a great start for a new team! The Warriors played against teams from Yorkshire and Lancashire with mixed results, beating Shevington but losing to Queenbury and Stanningley. Despite missing players during the club’s festival in August, the Warriors are now gearing up for a busy schedule as they approach the season finale in Warrington!

Alton FC Thundercats

The Thundercats kicked off their new season on 7th September after a busy summer! They won the Cup at the Alton FC Tournament, reached the Plate semifinals, and were promoted to Division 3 after winning all their summer friendlies. Additionally, they’ve recruited a female coach from the ladies’ team and are supporting another player through her Sparsholt coaching diploma, reinforcing their commitment to developing pathways for women in coaching.

East End United

East End United had a quieter summer without league games, focusing on teambuilding through friendlies and festivals. Some players had the opportunity to move up a level but chose to stay, reflecting the strong bond within the team. After finishing 4th in the development leagues, another season at this level will benefit the players. Currently unbeaten for three weeks, promotion may be on the horizon for the boys!

Thatto Heath

The Swords are unbeaten, sitting at the top of the league! Following a recent promotion, the Shields are aiming for a mid-table finish despite some narrow defeats. The boys are dedicated, participating in extra training and enjoying post-training meals from a local sponsor. The Crusaders recently won the Lancashire Cup with a score of 22-12! With one game left, a win would secure the league and cup double for the second year.

Haunchwood Sports Junior FC

The Haunchwood Hearts U9s had their first home game of the season a few weeks ago, battling through the rain in an exciting end-to-end match and secure a win with just seven players. They’re excited to have booked their spot at the ESF Tournament at Butlins next year!

Canvey Island Pumas

The Pumas have had a fantastic start, winning a friendly 2-1 against another Canvey youth team. In their first league game, they made a thrilling comeback, turning a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 victory! Promoted to a higher league this season, the team are hopeful for continued success. The Pumas finished 3rd in a recent tournament, and the boys proudly displayed their medals.

Woodthorpe Community FC Dynamos

The Dynamos are having a fantastic season so far, losing just one of five matches. Their strong team dynamic is complemented by their new matching, GAP branded, kits, making them look sharp on the field. The Dynamos are excited to keep their momentum going!

Beacons Football Club

The Beacons Under-team have been loving their brand new, GAP-branded kit! Despite the weather limiting the team to just their second game of the season, they have shown incredible resilience as they've transitioned from 5-a-side to 7-a-side on larger pitches, with games now lasting 25 minutes each way, compared to just 1- minutes last season. It's been a challenge but their hard work makes it even tougher to choose Player of the Match each week. As training continues on, there is no doubt their dedication will lead to the victories they are striving for!

Looking ahead to the rest of the season, it’s clear that our youth teams are not only developing their skills on the field but also creating strong bonds of friendship and teamwork off of it. Our sponsorship has been well-received by all teams in helping the players thrive, and we can’t wait to see what they achieve next. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to cheer on our teams in their upcoming matches and tournaments!
