Iain Anderson, GAP Hire Solutions’ Joint Managing Director, was awarded The John Jennings Crosshire Award at the Executive Hire Show 2019. The accolade was introduced in memory of hire industry legend John Jennings following his sad passing in late 2016.
The award is presented on an annual basis, with the winner having demonstrated that they possess the same passion and commitment to the hire industry that John Jennings himself consistently exhibited over his 50 years’ in hire.
Editor of Executive Hire News, Alan Guthrie, and former award winner, Dennis Gwynne, were there to hand over the trophy to Iain.
Alan stated when presenting the award:
"The John Jennings Crosshire Award goes to a hire professional demonstrating enthusiasm, high standards, dedication, concern for his colleagues and the wider industry, optimism and humour, and this special individual has all these in abundance."
Iain is currently celebrating his 35th year with GAP, having joined the business in 1984 to run the company’s first greenfield site based in Sighthill, just outside Edinburgh.
As well as the success he has achieved with GAP, an example of Iain’s commitment to the wider hire industry has been his vital role in the establishment of the ‘Fraud and Security Forum’ in 2015, bringing together eight of the UK’s major hire companies to share ideas and come up with solutions tackle fraud and plant thefts.
In addition to this, Iain, with brother Douglas, has introduced a charitable initiative named GAP Giving, which each year donates a percentage of GAP’s annual profit to charities of all kinds throughout the country.
Being a people person, Iain engages with, and is accessible to, all GAP employees whatever they do for the company and wherever they are based. It is important to him that everyone at GAP knows they can call him directly at any time.
Following the presentation of the award, Alan Guthrie commented:
"Judging by the roar from the audience when Iain’s name was announced, our winner was a hugely popular choice."
